One day, in my early 40s, a stark realisation hit me as I struggled to balance on one leg while getting dressed for work, I couldn't bend down to put on my socks without perching on the edge of the bed. I was working in the NHS at the time and keen on falls prevention, I confronted the need to address my inflexible, non-balancing body .
Too embarrassed to go to a yoga class (you've got to be flexible to go to a yoga class right? Wrong!) I tried to teach myself, I started to learn sun salutations and felt so good after practicing them but didn't know what to do next and when I tried some poses I wasn't sure if I was doing them right so I pulled my big girl pants on (still perching on the edge of the bed) and attended a yoga class. I loved it, my body felt amazing afterwards and my mind was much calmer, that was it, I fell in love with yoga.
